đ Is St Moritz Worth Visiting
Feb 7th, 2002 03:41 PM. I would take Grindelwald anyday over the pseudo-glitzy-wannabee of St. Moritz. On the other hand, I would take the St. Mortiz area over Grindelwald. I like Davos, Flims
The train ride for me began very early in the morning because to get from Zurich to St. Moritz takes SIX HOURS+ ROUND TRIP. That is the part you will have to mentally and physically prepare yourself for. Of course, the awesomeness of this trip is worth the time, especially on the way to St. Moritz because it is daytime and youâll have these
1105. Nestled in the Engadin valley, St Moritz is one of the worldâs most famous skiing locations. Combining 88 pistes, highs of 3,305 metres and cross-country trails, skiing in St Moritz is an unforgettable experience. However, your time in this Swiss idyll will feature much more than the slopes. With designer boutiques, decadent apres-ski
St. Moritz village is quite small so you can walk to many places. But if you want to visit the lower part of St.Moritz (St.Moritz Bad) or venture out to some of the mountain peaks, I recommend using public transportation. There are buses traveling between St.Moritz village, St.Moritz Bad, and all other villages in the area.
Just returned from fabulous trip. Thx to all advice we took the Italian Train from Varenna to Tirano in morning (even purchased senior rate tickets). Crossed tracks in Tirano and took regional red train to St Moritz. Purchased round trip 2nd class tickets and had traincar almost to ourselves. Breathtaking scenery.
Tucked away in the east of Switzerlandâs GraubĂźnden canton, close to Liechtenstein, Chur is a lesser known yet historical city. It has great transport connections, making it an easy 1hr 30 train ride to Zurich, less than an hour to nearby Vaduz or 2 hours on the train to the luxurious resort town of St Moritz.
The only available option for that day, to leave St. Moritz on the Glacier Express train was at 7 a.m. This train takes 2 hours to get to Chur. As this is one of the least favorite options for tour groups, this time was still available. The 7 a.m. departure from St. Moritz is only available in Summer and doesnât go all the way to Zermatt.
St Mortiz has a very fast toboggan run, and the fastest one is from the top station at Muottas Muragl. The trail is 4.2 kilometers long and you will fly through a winter paradise of larch and pine forests and into the valley. The views around you will be quite astounding as you rush down the mountain.
While an early morning might not sound worth it, the latest Bernina Express train from St. Moritz to Tirano leaves at 4:14pm. The Earliest Possible Itinerary Arrives in St. Moritz in the Late Morning If you take the earliest possible train and bus combination, you will get to St. Moritz around 10:45am, which leaves you approximately 5.5 hours
